    Default What Petrol/Diesel

My Veccy 1.8 is normally replenished at the nearest filling station but recently been filling up at Shell and she has been running very nicely. The last 3 fillups tho have been at Esso and she has been running a bit off song, bit sluggish and jerky so last night as it was time to juice her up put £25 of the expensive Shell in. This morning she started soooo nicely and seems she is back to as she was, smooth and quiet with a nice steady pull uphill.
Told a mechanic friend and he said Shell is best.

Just wondered what other members have found about brands of petrol, does anyone else have a Shell Addict sitting oputside?

People will call me crazy, but i only ever put in shell V Power in my 1.9cdti. I once put cheap fuel in, and it felt so rough.

Runs really smooth on the V power imo, Some dont notice a difference.

I have been considering others to use, Like BP Ultimate, or some others, but not sure will watch this and see what others use.

I have tried Shell, Shell V power, BP, Tesco, Tesco Momentum, Asda, Morrison's in my 1.8 and never noticed any difference in running or in MPG.

Asda knocks about 4mpg off for me, Texaco and shell normal I find same, vpower shows a higher figure, but not sufficiently higher to warrant spending the extra cost on it. We have no other brands of filling station around

I have a 2005 2.2 sri direct. Sunday I filled up with Shell petrol and after 10 miles the engine lost power and the engine management light came on. switching off and restarting car ran ok for a few miles then same again. no power and had to keep switching off . eventually got home but the same thing happens when I go on short trips. normally use Morrison petrol with no problems.any answers to what has been damaged and how to rectify. engine only done 65k. with no problems.

Have you checked the error codes, feet on brake and throttle, turn on ignition, lift foot off throttle and then back on throttle and keep both feet down whilst you turn ignition off and back on, keep both feet down and count flashes on engine icon. 10 flashes = 0, 1 = 1 etc Should normally be just as an example 10-3-4-10 which = 0340 Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction.

You need the error codes to suss the fault, doubtful its the petrol, possibly just coincidence.

If you want the full list of error codes, email me or I think there is a list on Vectra-C.com.

My 1.8 gets Asda petrol. But then again it only runs on it for about 20 seconds a day. Most of the time it runs on Asda LPG
