    Default Key fob programming ?

Sorry if this has been covered before, although I search didn't come up with a thread.

I have a spare 2 button fob from my old Vectra B and wondered if I could have my car programed to take it. I initially thought it would be a Tech 2 job, but after reading this Ebay auction at http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VAUXHALL-KEY-F...QQcmdZViewItem
I'm now wondering if it's really possible for me to add the key myself ???

Not a chance m8, you cant even re-code a key from another Vec C let alone a two button one from a Vec B.

I think he might be on about when the key fob goes "out of sync" with the car.. I could not see the ebay page as it was not available..

I think you'll find that eBay seller is full of ****, lol.
He mentions "re-programming" after changing the battery, yes that's possible, the info is in everyone's handbook.
He also mentions having brought a replacement key off eBay, here I think he talks out of his bum, IMO, lol.
But someone please feel free to prove me wrong.

So correct me if im wrong do i have to have a key from vauxhall and NOT ebay that will re programme to my VECTRA C or will any back street key vendor do that has the same key cutting machine as VAUXHALL and the same programming knowledge as the vauxhall dealers or is there a strict code of conduct that will reprogramme a chip so it will actually work on my vehicle ?????

I think key re-programming is now such a palaver for security reasons in order to prevent any old automotive key cutting specialist from cloning keys.....gone are the days when it was just a case of cloning the chip from the other key for the car putting it into a cut copy and away you go. VX brochure states that only recognized keys (presumably Tech2'd to the car) can work up to a maximum of 5 per car. Oh, and the money the dealers can make is a nice sideline.

Given that a new key supplied by Vx (fob and key cut) is only £37.50+VAT, and the programming is £15-20 + VAT, you really are better off just going to Vx.

These fobs off ebay are a bit useless. You'll still have to get the key laser cut by somewhere that has the facility to do it from your key code, then you still have to get Vx to program it to the car - or somewhere that has a Tech 2 device, which your backstreet key cutter certainly won't.

A whole new key and fob from Vx programmed to your car will be around £65 - and that'll be the new flip key version.

or if anyone comes to any meets that I attend, i can program the key to the car there and then...which makes flip keys that little bit cheaper..
