Default Wheel nut bolt sheared off

So...........one of my wheel nut bolts sheared off as I was tightening the bolt for the wheel. It has sheared/broken off, so that there is still about a third of the threaded nut within the thread for the wheel. i.e it is below the level of the plate and you can not get pliers etc over it.....

So question is....how do you get these fellas out? Is it a question of drilling it out? Is there a special tool?

    Many thanks in advance,

    M

Or you could try chiselling it round just curious to how it sheared ?, overtightened i guess.

Drill it out. You may have to re-thread the hub though if you get to close to the threads

My comment is based on me being a mechanical engineer, I'm sure any proper fitters would try that first as you don't want to damage the threads or the hub shocking it.

Have you removed the brake disk? that will give you about 2mm moore too grab with a plier or even from the backside of the hub.

Take it to a garage and get them to weld a nut on whats left and remove it that way. Or any of the above replies.

Thanks for replies...have new nuts on order and will tackle next week when they arrive. Thinking a nice Cobalt pilot hole and then one of those reverse thread removal tools. Might be able to remove disc and see if there is enough for purchase, maybe it protrudes the other side as well....either way it will be next week..........

    Thanks,

    M
