I am very grateful that I have my job due the the current climat but sometimes I just think that some employers are using the recesion as a OHH WE want you to do THIS IE more work load often duties that you shouldn't be doing to save money ect inflation is risin yett the wage we get is not rising yett the employer pushes jobs onto you when there's less staff ECt please don't get me wrong I am very grateful I have my job I'm just saying as a whole I'm getting the feeling that here using I as an excuse ...... More work load less staff less pay more duties ECt ..... Yett when you question the replay you get is ohhh your lucky you have a job

I agree completely. Just over the last couple of years I have taken on more and more work. My pay rise was 2%, way below inflation.

My commuting costs are soaring, my living costs are soaring, I have less and less free time or spare money.

The country has gone to the dogs.

I think this is the problem.

There's absolutely nothing anyone can do about it. Gone are the days where you could leave one job and walk into another. So we either put up, and shut up. Or claim JSA.

    I know which I'd rather.

Tricky one - I think alot of companies are using it as an excuse to trim out the unproductive and shed a bit of expense under the guise of 'the recession'.

I work for a very small company so it's always been a bit of give and take on the workload front but there seems to be a middle ground that when we're quiet there's not the work, but we have busy days where there is far to much to do for one person - but you can't really justify employing someone for the busy days so it's a catch 22.

But in general I think you're right - you have no option. Guess we get on with it

It's just how it is. I'm an employer and firmly believe you need to experience managing and running a company with all the financial burdens of it. Believe me, it's far easier being an employee.
In lean months my employees always come first and always get paid, where I don't. think about that one for a minute.

I think we all to some extent will be doing more work for less pay at the minute, i dont think the recession will be used as an excuse though! It's just the reason.

I don't think I'd need a recession to shed the 'unproductive'... why should I pay for someone to take the p!ss?

Hmmm I totally agree with the above. I'm quite lucky as I work in healthcare manufacturing and it's one of the only sectors that is still growing (think of a very well known cough lozenge and a well known painkiller). over the last 3 years I've had a 12% in pay rises, but I'm just thankful I have a job at the minute that is in demand. On a flip side the household manufacturing side of the company (well known home fragrance brand) isn't doing as good as its classed more of a none essential so cuts are being made there. I think my company are using the resession as an excuse to pull there belts tighter and put more of a workload on us. P1sses me off when last year we paid our CEO £92m bonus!!!!!!!!
