Default My first foray into the Vectra's!

    Morning all.

After 3 years of having a nice shiny 59plate mitsubishi, I decided I could no longer justify the 3 year lease jobby type thing, so i set off in search of a car.

After looking at some right S***! including garages not mentioning insurance write offs and ones with the overpower stench of dog, last week I settled on a relatively tidy 52plate 1.8 SXI Vectra C. 100k on the clock, bought for £1600 with 12months mot, a new cambelt and a few other things. Impressed I got a 10yr old car without losing any of my gadgets (cruise control, steering wheel controls etc)

Now i'm starting the long and daunting road of fixing a few niggles and tidying things up a bit and hoping the daughter doesn't make too much mess in the back!

So far the forum has helped with countless things from discounts and how 2's and hoping it continues to do so.

Look forward to getting to know you guys.

Welcome along. 1.8 may not be the fastest motor on the block, but its easily the most reliable.

I'm not allowed to go fast any more - 2yr old daughter and a few past indiscretions means that neither my insurance nor my license can withstand any more!

I'm just aiming to make it tidy and nice to look at.

I've got the same engine in an SRi and they're great engines. Not particularly fast or frugal but they do most things without much fuss. With your SXI being one of the earlier ones it'll have a few more bits on aswell, like maybe rear cup holders, sunglasses holder? All things that Vauxhall slowly but surely started taking off. I don't have a sunglasses holder in my 2004 SRi which annoys me!

I've got the sunglasses holder - feel quite privaliged now!

Whilst I was waiting for mine to be ready from the garage i did have a day or two driving my mums 56plate 1.9 CDTI SRI - she wasn't that keen on swapping

Can you give me a few days grace? I only picked it up Tuesday. The weekend it is going to be blasted inside and out, wet vaccing, polishing etc etc.

Tonights job is fitting the 'Aux in' to the stereo thanks to the handy how 2. and new thermostat to fit on Saturday too.

this is going to take some getting used to after having a car under warranty and just taking it to get fixed FOC with every niggle
