    Default Tyre problem

After having my Vectra a week, I've noticed the drivers side front tyre has a slight bulge in the wall but no sign of the tyre being scuffed or kerbed, now I could have missed this when I looked at the car, I've been on to the dealers (Vauxhall Main Dealer) but it doesn't look hopeful that they will help here, which is a bit anoying as you don't pay 7K, actually 7.5K when you add in the 3 year warrenty, for a car and then have to fork out over £200 for tyres a week later, the tyres fitted were not new but would have done me for about 10K miles. What do reckon guys, is there any hope that the dealers will help out? I am going to need 2 new tyres and half decent ones seem to be around £130 each.

Wouldn't have thought you have much hope to be honest as it could have been something you did after buying it.

I would push it, as long as there is no sign of damage to either the tyre or rim, indicating you may have done it. Tell them the vehicle MUST have had this defect therefore was sold in an unroadworthy state.

    God loves a tryer...

That's my angle, there's no sign of damage infact all the tyres are still have the tyre black on them that the dealer did. The problem is that they are saying they would have picked it up on the MOT, which they did themselves. I would like them to atleast meet me halfway as it now meens I have to buy 2 tyres and they ain't cheap.

I would certainly push for it. From their point of view they've made a profit from your car, so they'll be more inclined to keep it and sort you out. (You might want to throw a tantrum and tell them to keep the car, in which case I imagine some tyres will show up quickly!!)

as above not fit for purpose and sold in an unworthy state , tell them you wish to exercise your rights and hand the car back..... then watch them fit a new tyre

As it is the offside front tyre, take a look at the offside rear tyre
Quite often if driving over something which causes such a buldge on the front, will also cause it on the rear (and on the same side of the tyre)
If not, then it was done at low speed)

It may also point to a heavy nail or metal object, so closely examine the entire tread and tyre
You could get several hundreds of miles out of the tyre, without any issue
However if it starts to worsen then replace it immediately

Basically if it is visible when you stand six foot perpendicular to the wheel, then it needs to be replaced

I've pushed before on a tyre post-sales, but I may as well have been whistling dixie

Cheers for the relies guys, the dealer replaced the tyre with a new one of the same brand and type and without question so I would say that they deserve a big thumbs up for service, bearing in mind that there was no real proof that the tyre was faulty when I collected the car

If they've fitted a brand new tyre to the front, I'd swap them with the rears as you should always have a matched pair in terms of wear, so I'd always have a new tyre put on the back. It can cause irregular wear on your driven wheels as even if they are the same, they will handle differently because of the wear on the existing tyre.

Good result though. Seems they were 'feeling you out'
