Not had this problem on my vec but i improved the gear selection on our Zafira A by spraying loads of silicon grease on the linkage in the engine bay. I also took the gaiter off (below the gear knob) and sprayed loads on the plastic linkage after cleaning it. It was well mingin.

Perhaps the linkage can be adjusted too but i've not tried

Just when cold or all the time? A gear box fluid change can't hurt.

If you have a biker mate, get some of his chain lube!! Use instead of grease.

I think you're all barking up the wrong tree, there's a How2 for this problem, based on an official Vauxhall fix, and it doesn't involve biker grease or silicone lubricant:

Ive got this same issue, Had the box oil changed, and no different, So going to changing the clutch fluid in the near future, Once warmed up no issues there for me though.
