Default CD70 and ID3 Tags - no artist tag??

    Hi all.
Done a bit of searching and surprisingly didn't find much info on this-
In the CD70 infotainment manual, it states that when playing MP3, the unit will display title, artist, and album. Yet it only seems to display title and album. Anyone else notice this? I've tried different cd's, different versions of ID3 tagging, doesn't seem to make any difference. Bit puzzling now!

I think it's something to do with the difference between 'Artist' and 'Contributing artist' I have a disc that only recognises Artist on some of the albums.

Its down to how you label the songs and artist. My CD70 displays the song and the ablum

Well i read somewhere that most tagging is saved in UTF-16 format, which unfortunately most car audio units don't like, apparently ISO 8859 format is better. Surely if this was the case it wouldn't read the tag at all though?

It depends upon the artist / destributor

Artists like Michael Jackson have had ID3 tagging for about 5 years on their albums.
I have noticed that one or two more artists are starting to include the tagging on their brand new albums.

So in essence - CD70 supports ID3 tagging, but it just depends if this information has been put onto the CD by the manufacturer / destributor.

MP3 CD's are the same... these will list tags, if you have burnt the tracks to CD correctly, using certain software packages. - Nero or Sonic Stage etc.

Nero will display the correct info if you choose 'Reference Strategy' as a burn option and supply Artist and Album title where requested.

Nero's CD Jukebox option does the lot automatically.

There is a freeware program called CDBurnerXP here which will do it all for you

Well I've discovered a couple of things about mp3 cd's so far-
    1) If you use a tagging program such as mp3tag, it defaults to encoding the tags in the UTF-16 Unicode format. Now, if you put that in the CD70, it refuses to use the tag and reverts to showing the file name. What you have to do, at least in mp3tag, is in the options you have o change the encoding to ISO-8859-1. Either that or just make the tags ID3v1 only. Anyway that's one thing to bear in mind.

    2) The CD70 you would think gets its "album" field from the actual album field in the mp3 tag, right? Wrong!! It doesn't display that at all, instead it is displaying the FOLDER name (if any) that you have the songs in! So as I'm already starting to notice, the CD70 isn't quite conforming to standards in itself! The testing continues......!
