egr bypass thought

anyone done or any ideas on this.

ive had my egr mapped out via remap, car runs much smoother with the egr unplugged than plugged in still but eml is on, if i blank the egr the eml stays out with it unplugged so its mapped out correctly but runs better unplugged for some reason.

anyway to rid the dash of the eml im thinging of bridging the connector with wire or paperclip to send the signal to the ecu its plugged in. as the ecu doesnt read data for the egr anymore this should work... any thoughts

Not sure I fully understood your posting, but other people have bought a second EGR (even a faulty one) and cable tied the working one to the one actually fitted to the engine to fool the ECU. As long as the fitted to the engine one is closed, it works well.

Erm - if that's still happening then it hasn't been mapped out mate...

I'd go and get your money back or ask them to do it properly...

it has been mapped out, when its disconnected the ecu sees it as an electrical connection fault the egr delete only tells the ecu to not use the egr function.

when its blanked off there is no eml, whereas if it wasnt mapped out there would be.

in simple terms, im going to try to bridge the 2 pins on the egr connection to bridge the circuit to see if the eml will dissapear, it goes off when plugged in again. but it seems to run a tiny bit worse blanked off and plugged in.

it maybe the blanking making it worse of course, but its way better unplugged, just trying to rid the eml

But it shouldn't make any difference to the running of the engine if it isn't using it at all mate. I shall check on mine tomorrow if unplugging it makes any difference, but the whole idea is that it remains permanently shut. I've blanked it too, but either way you shouldn't have the EML light on whatever state the plug and blanking plate are in...

if yours is mapped out, then unplug the connector, the ecu doesnt request anything from the egr mapped out, but.... it recognises a fault with the electrical connection.

it maybe placebo but i feel the car is stronger unplugged for some reason.

the egr delete doesnt remove the egr function, just merely tells the ecu to not use it...

It shouldn't be running better with the valve unplugged, that to me instantly cries the valve is still being used. The light may be out but some on here have actually blanked the EGR valve and the emissions light never comes on.

If you haven't had the valve mapped out and you:

- unplug the EGR valve the 'Check engine' light (car and spanner light) will come on

- blank the valve but leave it plugged in, it will cause the emissions light to come on instead.

None of these lights should illuminate nor should the car run better with the valve unplugged m8, I think you need to make sure the valve has been deleted.

All the software does is change the map from a 1 to a 0 for the EGR, but I am only questioning the fact the car seems to perform better. I've never found the need to unplug it as it is mapped out and blanked off.

If you blank it off it will tell you everything whether the valve is in use or not.

All 'mapping out' does is tell the ecu to ignore the readings its getting but as said by unplugging it it will throw up an open circuit fault.

It needs plugging in and a blank fitting.

as i said....... i have had a blank fitted but mpg dropped quite a bit and i didnt like the way it worked. so undid it and unplugged now its fine. so as per my original post im looking at bridging the connection to remove the open circuit eml.
