    Default F40 Gearbox

    Hi
    Still having probs with my f40 gearbox crunching 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd.
    I've changed the gearbox oil only putting 2.4ltrs in and reset the sincromess and its no better.
    Can anybody help

    They just crunch i think mine does sometimes when cold but is alot better when warm

    If its only when cold I wouldn't worry.

    Their is a fix I remberd seeing on auto data.
    Butsure requires new bearings

    Their is a fix I remberd seeing on auto data.

    No, the only fix on TIS for the F40 is the reduction in oil level. It even says that if this doesn't sort the problem, don't try anything else as there's nothing else to do.

    Well autodata lists :

    Problem:
    Difficult to change between 1st and 2nd when transmission cold

    Cause;
    Sliding gear sticking

    Remedy;
    Repair kit 9201451
    note: modified gear introduced as of transmission No. GXX0320969 10/03

    Ensure clutch system is bled
    Ensure gear linkage is correctly adjusted
    If problem still occurs fit sliding gear kit
    It is not necessary to replace entire transmission

    is you thermostat and sensor working ok?? mine was a porker in all gears when the stat was playing up. just a thought ;-)

    Is your flywheel on its way out. Makes a massive difference to engaging gears.

    Try a tube of molyslip in the box. Helps a bit.
