Default Help needed!!! Glow plug lead removal 2.0dti

    Hi folks,

I'm intending on changing my glow plugs on saturday and have ordered a bosch duraterm set off the bay for 32quid delivered so happy days there

but I can not see how the leads come off the existing plugs

I may be being a bit tick but I cant see any release buttons or lugs to loosen them off so they can be removed and I'm not gonna try to force them....

I have searched all over but can't find any pics or clear descriptions on this

    can anyone help???

    Steven

The black caps have tabs on them on opposite sides. They are flush with the rest of the cap and don't have ridges (to grip them with ) so not the easiest thing to see. You press in the top half (i.e. furthest from the glowplugs themselves) of each tab on each side and this makes the bottom half of the tabs come out and release the cap from the glowplug.

If you look closely, you can see that the tabs are part of the same moulding as the rest of the plug and move by bending a thin strip of plastic that connects them mid-way down each side to the rest of the cap. You have to press quite firmly as they are quite stiff and the caps may need a bit of wiggling as well, especially if they haven't been off for some time.

...and also remember - spray the glow plug base where it screws into the head with plus gas a good few times before you try and remove.

Remove plugs when the engine is at operating temprature and youll be fine..

There are no release button/lugs. Use a plier to hold the top of the connector, sqeeze together gently and at the same time move clockwise and anti clockwise then pull upwards. Should come away easily. Have your 10mm deep socket and spray some wd40 on the plugs before trying to loosen. Goodluck.
