Default Anyone help in advising what gearbox is in my veccie?

    Hi all,

Well the gearbox decided to have a fault occur this time. I've got loads of teeth of the gears and swarf when I dropped the pan cover and oil.

What I'm trying to find out is what gearbox do I have as I'm been quoted loads to recondition it/get a replacement g/box. Was gonna try and get a replacement off ebay etc. I under stand there's a code liek F40 etc etc??

    Vectra is a 2003 1.8 elegance = Z18XE?

Cheers guys if anyone can help.

Send me your reg in a PM and I'll see if EPC states it.

Should be either f17-wr or f17-cr.

    Wide or close ratios

It might be worth getting the code off the actual gearbox to compare. The following link shows where to find the code and what the digits mean:

    http://www.opel-infos.de/getriebe/f17.html

I would suspect that an Elegance has the F17CR, but without going out to the carpark to check mine I can't be 100% certain

Received the reg in a PM from OP, the build info on EPC just says F17 5-speed, without mentioning wide or close raio, but when you go to look up the part number(s) for replacement units it only lists the wide ratio, so looks like that's what you have.

Derrrrr lol. Even I can decipher that German page enough to read that the "W" near the end of the serial number on your gearbox means Wide Ratio - which is what I found from your reg number anyway.
