    Default Ecoflex servicing

My 1.9CDTi is on the Ecoflex scheme which basically means service once every 2 years or 30000 miles or when the light comes on.

My first service (at 2 years / 20000 miles) just came in at £250 including a brake fluid change which isn't too bad I guess. After looking back through the forums though I'm beginning to wonder whether there's any advantage in switching to one of the other schemes or does it always work out at ~£250 every two years regardless.

you all moan about the price of servicing at a vauxhall dealer but have you considered the drawbacks by not having it done at a dealer? a lot of you have moaned because your car didnt have some recall work done, the car has gone wrong just out of warranty and vaux dont want to know, well if the car was done at a dealer then any recalls should be picked up and either done or rebooked, and a dealer service history is worth alot to get vauxhall to help you so im afraid there are alot of benefits of having the car done at a dealer

In my vast experience what solorider has said is just not true. VX (like any other maker / dealer) will get out of as much warranty expense as possible. I cannot see how having a dealer service stamp will recoup the extra paid out, in the long run. I don't use dealers to service my car, have never had issues with warranty and cannot see how the money I save on self servicing is detrimental longer term. Even if VX have more good will after warranty expires, will it really cover the vast difference in initial costs? I don't think so.

£250 for a service is simply a rip off. I do not know how your dealer can quote that without a Dick Turpin mask on IMO. Cost for the first service for mine (a lowly 1.8) was less than £30 for the long life oil and oil filter. The rest is just tyre kicking, and these checks should be done anyway periodically and not left for the service interval. I have never paid for a service on any of my cars, then i know exactly what has been done, with what and that it has been done properly and with care.

Clearly, as you can see, I am not a dealer fan. To be really honest, if I was buying an older second hand car, I would prefer to see an independant stamp than a main dealer. I don't moan about the price, I simply don't pay them to do it. That is the difference.

Just my opinions of course. At the end of the day it is your money, and you spend it how you like. It is all about TOTAL LIFE CYCLE COSTS.

We all know about servicing and VX warranty. As long as it uses genuine VX parts, to the service interval at an VAT registered establishment, then VX CANNOT refuse warranty work, that is the law.

I took my Astra to the Vauxhall specialist in the area for a service.

I told me that there was a recall which needed some parts. Went to the VX dealer who confidently told me that someone was winding me up and there was no recall. I asked him to wait a second whilst I contacted the garage servicing the car. As soon as I mentioned the name of the owner the service manager suddenly decided to check again and found the recall
