Default Started my Kerb lighting project tonight

    Following from these threads :-

    http://vectra-c.com/forum/showthread.php?t=158872

I started tonight on a whim to see if I could create kerb lighting on the door cards.

I have a full preface SRi interior to practice on so I thought why not.

Got hold of the passenger doorcard from the shed and got my tools out

I first off nicked the glove box light housing out of my facelift to cut down. I will re wire a led board in there anyhow.

The offending prefaclift passenger doorcard (my test subject)

Cut down the sides of the glove box light housing with a dremel to only a few mil

After the first cut. Some filling will need to be done.

Time to dremel the doorcard! Here goes nothing ....

Ok thats done but looks very messy. Thats where the filling begins ...

Before a trial fit I need to file the sides of the light housing.

After that i needed to file the doorcard to smooth it out a bit.

Trial fitted the light housing. fitted very nicely i might add

Now to test it out with a led board and a 9v battery. (best I could tonight but will give me a good idea how it could turn out)

Cellotape used to the mas to hold everything in.

    Im liking this

    And for the final result

This did take me around 40 mins to complete and it is just a trial fit. I do like it so I just have to work out where the best place is for the cable runs.

Oh and also the down lights from the door cards will be blue as I have so much white going on in the interior.

    Hope this helps others.

    Cheers

Where are you getting the 12 volt feed mate? Running a new cable into the door from the interior light?

I'm really tempted to do a similar mod and also to fit footwell lighting.

If I add lights on to the interior light feed, will it affect the time it takes for the original lights to dim after closing the door? I added the driver/passenger spot-lights to my Vec B and the lights dimmed much quicker than when I had the original single light ceiling unit.

I have junction blocks in all footwells so im sure I can spur off them. Just have to route it through the plastic housing running from the frame to the door.

As for the dimming there is not adverse effects. All my lights dim nicely and in time. You just have to have a really good connection on all blocks/junctions.

Going to look at running a wire through the plastic hose between the frame and door. If I can do that then I just have to get hold of some more glove box / boot light housings to finish it off.

Im sure someone here has a few for sale.

Thats an idea too, but I remember from previous posts that the led light was too much and peeps poo poo'd the idea. Just to bright,

If you know of other led's that are not so bright please post a link.

I went to maplin today and they had no white or blue, just red, orange, green and yellow. I walked away .... grumberling to myself .....
