    Default Watery black oil

    HI ALL;

    I am looking for some help and am hoping one of you can help as this is starting to pee me off...

    Anyhow I own a 2009 Vectra SRI cdti, presently there is 51000miles on the clock..I bought the car 7 months ago with 28000miles on it, the car covers approx 600miles per week and I have a local garage change the oil every 10-11000miles, anyhow the other day after getting a full service done on it the mechanic informed me that the oil was black but running like water, I explained to him that the car does a 100+ miles on the m.way every day sitting at 60-65mph and the mechanic says this must be why the oil is so watery looking, is he correct in saying that..

    I also have to say that the car is doing 62-64mpg all day long when driven properly, and when one is in a rush will easily sit at 115mph all day long so performance is not an issue....

    Any advice would be greatly appreciated;

    Thanks Again..

    First off is you are using fully synthetic oil you can go 20k before it needs a change.
    If the car is set up for eco service or whatever it is caleed it should tell you when it needs its oil change I believe. Mind you changing at 10k can only do more good for the engine you would like to think.

    As for the oil appearing watery, as long as you are not losing water or having to top up the oil regulary then all is fine.

    I would not mention speeds above 70 on an open forum either bud

    If GM-LL specification oil has been used, then it can look very watery
    Equally, after a few hundred miles it can be jet black

    As above, the service interval (on your car) is 20K miles, providing you are using GM-LL specification oil
    If you are using any other synthetic oil, then reduce to 10K miles

    I would be more concerned over visible water droplets and/or metal filings in the oil

    As long as you are using high quality fully synthetic oil and there is no coolant lose i woult'nt worry.

    But as i do with any car no matter what is recomended i always change oil every year or 10k miles whichever comes first. This 20k miles stuff is just a selling point and wont do your car any good.

    All the Vectra C engines use a modern, thin, fully synthetic oil. If warm, it's runnier than vegetable oil.

    And all diesel engines tend to turn oil black in seconds, I wouldn't worry about it. Just change it on schedule and it'll be fine.

    No need
    Mine is on 30K mile (ECO Flex) service intervals
    You should see what that the oil looks like once you pass 15K miles
    However, I have now passed 16K miles and interval is rapidly decreasing (as it has always done as the oil reaches the end of its life)

    If you plan on keeping the car I'd keep it at 10k service.

    As oil degrades over time. And there's no way I'd even consider letting mine get anywhere near 30k between changes.

    I service mine every every 6/7k works out about every 3 months
