    Default 2.0t - its a thirsty beast!?

Jesus - only had my 2.0t a couple of weeks and its going to bankrupt me! I do a motorway only 50 miles return journey every day and in my old 1.8 vvti that would cost me £40 - I worked out I was generally getting 35-40mpg

Looking at the mpg poll for the 2.0t on here I guessed I might get 30-35mpg on the same run (I have a gentle right foot and the 2.0t has a sixth gear which its in 90% of the journey) but I'm lucky if I'm getting 28mpg! £60 a week and its drinking the lot!

I did expect some increase in fuel but not this much! At this rate I'll be swapping it back for a 1.8!

I've done the airbox mod and put my pipercross filter in this weekend to see if that will add a couple of mpg!

You can see why the tractor engines are so popular.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

I'm a realist - the official figure for the 1.8 was 39mpg and I managed to get quite close to that. The 2.0t official figure is 32 and I'm never anywhere near that! I'm pretty good at getting the best economy out of a car but this one is resisting!

I'm getting 28 - 30mpg around town with an average speed of about 19mph. When I took it home (100mile trip, 70 on the motorway 30 on a roads) I was getting around around 35mpg without really trying!

I could live with 35mpg on the daily run! My average speed according to the BC is something like 43mph and I really do have a light right foot!

That's what's confusing me here, I don't have a light right foot, it loves to rev the engine a bit too much! Surely the air filter change can't make that kind of difference!

I've only just done the air filter so I'll see what happens this week. I know the 2.0t is a different beast to the 1.8 but I thought the 6th gear and more relaxed cruising power would balance out a bit on the motorway.

I think it does, it uses a lot less fuel than my old 2.2 Astra. To be honest, I almost wish my commute was motorway miles like yours is!
