Eek Cracnkshaft pulley removal - no belts

Ok so i set about doing the timing belt, water pump and alternator belt this morning...

I followed the how2 and upon removing the timing top cover i noticed that the belt was wrecked and is probably within a few miles of snapping, I could see that if i put extra pressure on it it would probably snap...

So i had to start going about things in a different way...

I can't get the crankshaft pulley to loosen in order to go bout removing the lower belt cover and replaced this very knackered timing belt...

I have tried putting the car in 4th and applying the brakes but it will not budge.. I can't use the method of kicking the engine over as that will probably snap the belt.. I put a breaker bar to the nut and had a go and loosening it. SNAP there goes the timing belt which was obviously as bad as it looked and would have gone anytime if not on the next run, lucky for same i guess that I don't need a new engine just need to the tis nut loose now...

    Any ideas?

I put in the blue locking tool which fitted snuggely and then set abot removing the alter

    Need an impact gun mate.

Could be worth phone aa/ rac saying you've got a flat and asking them to zip it off with pact gun.

Either or short sharp slaps with a hammer and bar.

well a quick trip to machine mart and i now have an impact wrench to add to my tools.. I get it out of the box and within a couple of minutes I have the crankshaft off.. That tool has just paid for itself in minutes... Excellent bit of kit, I could have spent more but funds are limited right now..

    now to finish this job...
