Exclamation M.O.T Advisory on Vectra C

    Hello

I have a Vectra C 52 plate and I have foolishly let my MOT run too long (runs out end of march) without acting on the MOT Advisories that I got on the last MOT. I was wondering you you guys could advise as to whether the following may pass on my next MOT or should I get them fixed before the MOT? They are:

Slight Play in n/s/f anti-roll bar link rod
Corrosion started in front to rear brake pipes
Slight play in o/s/f steering rack end
    Wear on rear brake discs
Corrosion started in rear coil springs

The trouble with the advisory notice is that it's very vague. Alot of it is 'slight' or has 'started'.

    Any help is appreciated, thanks

The brake disc advisory will disappear now as the only failure for brake disc is 'seriously weakened'

The items that have 'slight play' are a 'how long is a piece of string' scenario, in that; have they progressed to 'excess' play? Or are they still only slight? You're only going to know once you receive your paperwork after the test.

The corrosion on the brake pipes is the same scenario as above, but the corrosion on the springs is only a failure if it has 'seriously weakened' the spring.

I could probably pull some positives out of that But I agree with the how long is a piece of string scenario. Just have to keep my fingers crossed.

As posted before, I've had numerous advisories and some repeated from MoT to MoT
My main concern was the "corrosion on front springs", but I had that on all three MoT
Shortly after the third the spring finally failed

My advice on this point (as outlined on the previous MoT) is to monitor the springs at regular intervals, they are relatively easy to examine

The latest MoT brought up "Play in rear suspension bush"
I had the tester show me this and this then confirmed where the banging noise was coming from (which the dealership had not been able to diagnose in the previous service)
I then had that work carried out the following week

I would be concerned about "corrosion on brake pipes" as if these suddenly fail you might have serious issues

If the same points appear on the drop links and steering arms, then have them all replaced (both sides)
I would expect the drop links to have increased to now include the O/S/F with play and the N/S/F as worn

I had an advisory for slight play in drop link..
Never did it and it passed the next mot with no advisory on it.
    Same garage, same tester.

the 'corroded parts' may just be dirty. give it a good jetwash and then have a look. if they are corroded then replace them and stay safe. if they were just dirty you'll know you are safe and have piece of mind.
I've had corroded parts turn out to be dirty myself so I know this happens lol

Do the MOT testers look at last years advisory notes before they carry out the test?
As far as the corrosion - if it is slight surface rust scrape it off and spray with good quality underseal - I spray mine underneath ever year prior to the test especially exposed brake pipes located in the wheel arches and surrounding area - usually get advisory saying brake pipes covered in sealant - not so bad though is it! A lot of brake pipes have a plastic coating that bubbles up but when you clean that off the pipe itself is ok and just needs protecting.

No as I pointed out to the tester he found sound slightly different items and did not mention some which were there last time
    As an example
Two years in a row "windscreen cracks", with different reasons and locations, but on the most recent nothing, yet they are still there!
Nearside front spring corrosion, two years in a row

When I mentioned the springs, he agreed he can report them and it is just luck when they fail
"Noticed the rears look almost new and the rear anti-roll bar is rock solid, that's rare"
