    Default Black Sludge?

Hi guys, not been on here for ages and even had to reregister as forgot all log in details.
Hope this is in the right section, if not feel free to move it.

    Ok here goes.
Vectra CDTi 150 on 06 with a DTUK box. Been fine for a long time now some 35k miles. car has done 75k now. the other day while having a play with a mondingo i noticed a lot of greyish smoke on power but once lifted nothing and nothing at constant throttled or light power., but smoke on hard throttle.

Checked the comp and saw a temp of 95' so nothing too hot. when i stoped i checked the the oil and its fine but their is a black sludge in the header. No loss of water.

VX tech thinks it could be either the EGR cooler, EGR valve, Turbo or head gasket.

Im propper stumped. Dont want to be spending loads on things that might be faulty?

Please any ideas, it runs fine but have noticed that even when hot there is little or no presure in the cooling system?

    Thanks
    A

Vehicle : Mk1 renault scenic... I know I know but it drives

    Trim : Basic

    Engine : 1.6 16v

    Year : 2003

    Default

    Do they have egr cooler?

    What about oil cooler?

Probably worth getting cooling system pressure done.
    Aswell as getting sniff test.

yes the do have EGR cooler, mine sits on the front of the head above the turbo, some are on the side of the block above the gear box

Oil cooler would cause a mayo type of sludge as oil and water mixing.

Pressure check would show that theee is a loss of some sort but not show where

Sniff test would only show exhaust gas in the cooland but not pin point to where its coming from.

    Thanks for you thoughts

Pressure test the coolant system and a compression test on the engine would eliminate most of the things you've mentioned

You can bye pass the oil cooler by connecting the two hoses up, then cleaning your header tank out. And see if the sludge reappears. The car will be fine like this, until you get another, if needed.
Remove the h tank and i find washing powder works well.

ok i'll have a look at that but i do drive it hard, will it not over heat the oil?

But as i say its more like soot then oil in the water.
