Default Non Veccy help... Renault Clio

    Hi guys,

My old grandad has recently had to stop driving so I've getting his 2002 Clio sorted out to sell.

Anyone know their way around these? Got a couple of problems...

Firstly, the clutch only bites REALLY high up (top 20% of travel) but doesn't appear to be slipping. Wondering if the cable has stretched (there is about an inch of play when I pull it through the lever on top of the gearbox). Is there a way of adjusting, or it is simply a case of a new cable needed?

There's also a lot of motion of the gearstick when driving. If you boot it, the stick rocks back a fair bit under the acceleration. I'm assuming a torque restraint or engine mount has failed but I'm a complete stranger to the engine so I'm unsure as to which one it could be.

Going to put the car on the ramps tomorrow and see if I can spot anything obvious, but if anyone else has any experience they'd like to share it would be appreciated.

being a clio some young lad looking to stick a big exhaust on it will more than likly come for it, so wont even notice the problems.

on a serious note some adjustment can be taken up in the cable but i think they do have a fair bit of play in cable, well mine did anyway.

The Clio is going to a friend so I've been completely honest with him about the problems!

Told him the clutch was very high but that I'd check it out before he takes it.

Engine mount problem hopefully won't be too hard to find when I'm underneath.

The biggest issue is the one I've not mentioned! Damn drivers seat won't fold down! I think the cable between the handle (on the shoulder of the seat) and the mechanism must have snapped! Looks like I'm stripping a seat tomorrow along with everything else!

I'd never say this to the guy we're selling it to, but the build quality of this car is RUBBISH! I've always known French cars tended to be bad through reputation, but this is cr*p!

Annoyingly it's worth more than my Veccy, despite being a fairly basic model and 2 years older!
