    Default How hard is it....

To remove the trims from the dash and door cards?

At the moment I have the Woodgrain/walnut effect and want something that looks a little more...."Modern?" Mine is an '02 Elite, my dad has a '55 facelift Vec and I quite like the ones in his, the usual sort of granite/grey trim but with an aluminium strip on the passenger side of the dash, was going to get this set instead, have the grey/granite part painted the same colour as the car and leave the aluminium piece as it is, but are they hard to remove and does anyone have part numbers and/or round about prices as to how much this would cost?

The dash one's just pop out... the door trim one's thou, appear to be bonded on to the doorcards.. you'd be a braver man than me to try and remove them..

I thought Beavis has done this? IIRC they are 'riveted' onto the door cards i.e. plastic lug on the trim part pushes through hole in the card as is then squished on the other side (like a rivet is) to hold it on. All you need to do is grind the splayed plastic bit to release the trim strip and then work out a suitable way to fix the replacement trim.

but the trim on the door does not have an indivdual part number - it's all part of the doorcard. i might be wrong but i was looking at the screen when the guy was searching for it.

True Harry, so he'd need to get them from a set of donor door cards - that's what Beavis did IIRC. He had a donor set of cards and swapped them over to the ones he put in the car - it was all when he had most of his leather interior (and some trims) nicked out of the car and he fitted a replacement, but he needed/wanted to swap the door card trim.

dead easy to remove and refit the trims on the door cards as Duncan said grind off the plastic lugs and they pull off
you could then paint the trims and refit I bonded them on and used 5mm rivets back in the holes (perfect fit) and have had no issuses at all with them since and you wouldn't know they have been changed
