    Default 2.0 DTI 16v 2003/53

    Hi All,

    I'll try and keep the series of events short to avoid you nodding off:

    A sudden horrendous knocking from the bottom end.
    I decided to scrap the existing engine rather than rebuild it (145k miles).
    I bought a used engine (55k miles) without ancillaries, but it did include the diesel fuel pump.
    The destroyed engine was removed.
    All the ancillaries were transferred over, except the diesel pump.
    The used engine was then installed.
    Everything wired up, plumbed in and ready to go.

    Car won't start.

    All the dash lights come on and it turns over, but won't fire.

    I've researched what the problem might be and looks like the donor diesel pump is the issue as it isn't coded to my car?

    I have all the original paperwork with my car including all the security codes, but have no information on the donor vehicle. I have the original engine which is still fitted with the original diesel fuel pump.

    My mechanic is a little out of his depth now and seeing as he's been pondering over the issue for the last eight months, I'm keen to get it on a trailer and delivered to someone who knows what they are doing.

    Are there any technicians on this site who have a good reputation and could carry out the work for me? Anywhere between East Anglia and Berkshire would be ideal, but in reality can transport the car anywhere in the south of England.

    Sorry if this topic has been covered before; I did do a search (honest!).

    The pump needs coding to your car unfortunately, alternatively, you could swap the pump over and should get you up and running again

    The closest place I can think of to you that I know are a good place to deal with are Regal Autosport in Southampton - still a fair drag! Did you whack this up on PistonHeads too? Similar question on there too.

    swapping the diesel pump/ecu will be the answer and wouild keep the engine mileage right for the enging from what I've read elsewhere.
    how mush did the donor engine/ecu cost?? and the fitting??

    That seems to be the general view, but the work involved in swapping them over seems to be considerable.

    In answer to your query, the engine cost me £375 and fitting by a local mechanic around the £200 mark.

    So can anyone offer their services? I was hoping there would be resident technicians that come highly recommended

    hi if you dont have the immobilizer code for doner pump it cant be programmed easier to swap pump over 3 hour job
