Question AFL Xenon auto ON modes

    Hi!

Here in Norway it is a law/rule that says front headlights (or drivinglights) should be automatic ON even with the lightswitch OFF/0.
On my car, fitted with AFL Xenon, this means that in OFF/0-position, the xenons turn on, but they don't adjust sideways with the steering wheel, and the halogen sidelights don't light up when turning.
    In short:
OFF/0 - Xenons ON, Parkinglights ON, AFL not active.
Park - Xenons OFF, Parkinglights ON, AFL not active.
ON - Xenons ON, Parkinglights ON, AFL Active.

In my opinion, it would have been better if the car, in OFF/0-position, could turn on Parkinglights together with foglights, and xenons off. This is legal for drivinglights during daytime, and I think it would save my xenon bulbs.

Checked with a technician, and he tought it would be possible to change, but wasn't sure. He knew the Astra had 4 available modes in the Tech2.

Any one of you guys have some ideas?

    It's a Vec 07.

Well you cant have it automaticly to have "parklight" and front foglights on via tech2.

its not possible, you might be abel to turn the foglights on via tech2 so they work as you want, but you dont get the parklights on at the same time.

As i know its mandatory to have sidelights on when using the front foglights, it would say via tech2 just not possible.. you could...

1: Use tech2 so you just have rear lights on when car i started
2: Get a happy light show module, that can turn on front fogs as DRL
3: Wire up the park lights manualy, so they go on with ignition (and turn of the normal DRL that you have)

    Thank you for the feedback!

I might have misunderstood which lights are sidelights. When I mentioned sidelights, I thought it was the cornering lights that lights up approximately 90degrees to the side of the car when turning sideways or put on the indicator below 40km/h.

Which lights are sidelights in your term?

I will check out the happy lights module, that seems interesting.
The ultimate wish would be automatic fog lights during daytime, and automatic change to xenon with AFL on when dark enough. It would also be nice to make a rule that if xenons are turned on automatic, it would keep them lit even if it gets enough surrounding light outside the car (I.e. in towns) and just turn them off with the ignition. That would keep the xenons from turning on several unnecessary times.

There's a setting for DRL in the Tech 2 / Vauxcom menu. I think there are 4 different combinations but cant remember what they are. Option 4 i dipped beam on all the time (mine is stuck on that at the moment). I think it also depends wheather you're full or half canbus. You can do things with the fogs in 1/2 can that you cant on full can i think.

Well somethings depends on what model year your car is..

"sidelight" in my term is the w5w bulb.

If your car is a facelift, and have a rain/lightsensor. then together with a happylightshow it would be possible. but then its the lightsensor that will control it, unless you your self put the switch to 1 or 2.

You cant have it that if it ones put on the xenon it will keep it on until ignition off.

(thought about replacing your foglights with LED DRL instead?)

I have been thinking the same thing as Thomza. So that would save xenon's during daylight (also in Finland you have to have headlights always on).

    Here's a good idea to save xenon's:
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LED-DRL-Da...item2eb8dfd558
Although you can buy lot's of xenon bulb's with that price...

This may be an alternative solution, but I can't find any good documentation for the happy light show module.

My car is an 07 facelift vec station wagon, with rain sensor, I don't know if it's a light sensor there too...
Will it then be like many of the newest cars; LED DRL's, enters a tunnel and the xenons pop on? Some seconds after daylight again it blacks out the xenons and goes back to LED DRL's.

Front fogs as LED DRL is an smart option. I can't find any help with these (in halogen) anyway, and I am used to drive in pretty bad weather during wintertime at the mountains here In Norway.

Do anybody have a clue about the 4 or 5 modes of DRL.

Yes if your lightswitch also have a "auto" on it.. else i can be replaced and get BCM and REC to use autoligths then. atleast together witht the happylightsshow. about dokumentation have you looked at www.happylightshow.de ?

Hella have made some that are approved for foglight and DRL but they are 90mm so maby to large for a direct replacement.
