confused Difference in price between discs and kit?

I will need new front brake discs soon so was looking at how much they cost (via Tradeclub).

For just the discs it's about £117.

BUT, for a kit with discs and pads it's about £55.

Why is it over half the price to buy the discs and pads?

    Are they the same discs?

    Thanks.

    What size?

The GM kit is generally a better deal rather than buying it all separately but I'm suprised it's half the price.

Somethingt o do with encouraging people to replace both the discs and pads as discs these days tend to wear as just as quick as the pads. False economy IMHO just to replace the pads. If the discs are worn then the pads will wear even quicker.

It is the same with the 314mm kit for the front, they sell for about £100 from Vx for the discs and pads. They told me it made things easier for companys such as taxi firms.

    It is stupid, isn't it
These were the prices I received last year (full retail, no discount)
    314mm One Disc £60
    314mm Two discs £110
    314mm Pads £110
    314mm Pads and (2) Discs Set £95

Thanks everyone - not just me going mad then.

The only explanation I can think of is that you would be mad to replace the discs and not the pads, so there probably isn't much demand for just the discs.

Sometimes one disc is required for MoT
Also there is more demand for pads
Equally discs can usually last two or three sets of pads
When replacing the discs it is always best to replace the existing pads, hence the discount as often the pads are not fully worn

Would never consider replacing just one disc, would always do them as an axle set.
What difference would the pads not being fully worn make to the price of new discs & pads?
