1/2 can steering wheel controls are easy. 3mm dome LEDs. Hardest part is getting them back in.
Once you've got the unit back together chop off the little plastic locators that poke through the board. Bizarrely enough it will make the connector locate better

Yeah, i changed mine to red on my old vec using some filter gels (used on show lighting) was the only colour i could percieve working with the orange diffuser still in there,

Lol, you think the plcc2's are small, you should try using 0603's. I used those on the GID and the left LCD on the dash on Kman's advice and it does look a lot more even, but those things are tiny (about a quarter the size of a grain of rice each).

There's four of them lined up in the bottom left corner of this pic...

Doing the steering wheel controls on a preface is easy though, just make sure you get the LED's round the right way, they're 3mm domes as said and cutting off the locator lugs is good advice although I only cut off the one nearest the centre of the wheel on each and they go back in easy then and still have one of them holding them in place as well as the screw.

I did my steering wheel controls with the 0603's (Scroller type), you're right, nightmare.

Lol, yup, cheapest of the cheap Maplin best, lead-free solder. It was the first reel I pulled out of my electronics tool box (there's several in there)

Pah, as long as it flows properly it's fine, biggest issue with it is when people don't let it flow and it causes really brittle joints but on the stuff we're using it for in cars that's not an issue as long as its done right.

Although I'm not sure what's saddest, me knowing that or you spotting I was using it
