    Question Petrol 3.2 V6 (F35) transmission ratios

    Hi all,

I'm just curious to find out what the ratios are for the F35 manual transmission as used with a 3.2l petrol V6 engine (Z32SE).

    TIS gives the following ratios:
    (1)3.38 (2)1.76 (3)1.12 (4)0.89 (5)0.71 (R)3.17 (Diff)4.05

Holden's Vectra brochure gives the following values:
    (1)3.38 (2)1.88 (3)1.18 (4)0.89 (5)0.66 (R)- (Diff)4.05

Does anyone know what the correct values are? Does it sound likely that versions of the same transmission with slightly different ratios would be made?

I'd be interested to hear anyone's thoughts on this.

    Thanks.

yes it's perfectly likely that different trans ratios will be used as different 'territorys' have different driving conditions, so VX would tailor the box to suit..

A few years back when i had my Mk2 cavalier sri i blew the box, and got an opel box..still an F18 5 speeder, but from the continent as i was working out there..completely different ratio's..a real traffic light grand prix car.. bit short on top end legs compared to a UK box, but a real sprinter..

I can realistically see VX doing the same for the Vectra... just because the 'box suits england doesn't mean it will suit mexico..or Aus...

I remember the Mk2's had such a close ratio box it was brilliant, made the car much quicker but rev's where high on the motorways.

Wasn't the diff the main area of change as to save money?

nope, they had different gearsets. then when they brought out the early Mk3's they gave the option of a sri (close ratio) or standard box.. both gave nearly the same top speed, the Sri ( which used the old Sri130 engine) just got there a heck of a lot quicker in 1/2/3/4.. 5th was 1:1...

the standard box had 4th as 1:1 and 5th as an 'overdrive' gear for less Rpm..

from memory no vauxhall manual fwd box has had 1-1 ratio in any gear,on the sri 130 the 5th gear had the same ratio as the standard 4th gear ratio, all manual front wheel drive boxes have a overdrive top, most in 4th as well .the difference in gearing altered by the diff ratio on most boxes but a lot more boxes are close ratio but there is not a lot difference in the case of vauxhalls boxes from when i had a 1.8 sri astra and 2.2 coupe
