    Default Flippin' Vauxhall!!

I've had the power steering warning light on my dash for about 2 years now & with the mot rules about to change I thought I had better get round to getting it fixed. Read the fault codes & got C1534, which from what I can gather from some of the foreign forums is power steering fluid level. The level is fine, so I thought I'd try a new sensor. Ordered the part from the dealers tuesday, paid £52.38 for it, went to collect it today only to be told Vauxhall 'no longer service that part' - basically they don't make it anymore!! How can they stop making a part for a car that was only released 10 years ago! (I think I know the answer, probably involves a new PAS pump). They said they would check their dealer network tomorrowto see if somewhere has one in stock but otherwise they can't upply the part.

Basicallly I can't find this part anywhere online. I've tried ebay & all the usual online parts places but nowhere has one. If I can't get one from a scrappy or local motor factors I'll have to buy a complete pump & sensor off ebay.

Can anyone suggest somewhere that might sell one? Failing that does anybody know If this sensor can be programmed out via Tech2 & if the dealers would do this for me?

    Any advice appreciated

    Cheers

I will next week, I just haven't had the time. The dealers is literally 2 minutes away so like an idiot I thought it would be less hassle to go to them direct.

Well I know what the problem is!

The car has had a new power steering pump. The old pumps had a level indicator and the new ones do not. VX should know this because when they fit a new one they have to tech 2 the level indicator out if the car had the one with the level indicator.

so the answer is go get it tech2'd out, problem solved.

As far as I know the car has the original pump because it has got a level sensor on it. If it can be tech2 out I would prefer to do that rather than take the front of the car to bits.

It say on direct gov the test includes 'Check of the MIL for electronic power steering and steering lock.' Will they definately not fail the car for this?

Yes you can tech 2 it out, is the level sensor built into the lid?

The sensor looks like it screws or pushes into the top of the reservoir next to the filler cap.

I tried this. With the sensor plugged in or disconnected I get a pending C1534 code, with the wires shorted the code changes from pending to stored & the mil is still on.

Vauxhall have just rang & told me there isn't a dealer in the country with this part. They said they can Tech2 the sensor out as Merikiito says but it would cost £65. They gave me the number of a local auto electrician who they say might be able to repair the sensor or deprogram it cheaper than them.

They also said if your car is over 6 years old & a mil is caused by a defective but discontinued part it should not fail an mot on that alone. Never heard of that one before!
