    Default Removing stuck sump plug

    My sump plug has been stuck for a while since its made of toffee and well chewed up.

    Would I stand a chance of extracting it with something like these:

    Is there anything to worry about like flamability when drilling into it?

    Thanks

    I assume you have the Torx flat bottomed aluminium type?

    Do you have the correct torx bit to fit? Or hammer in the next size up and give the racket a sharp blow to 'crack' -

    or;

    If you need to drill it, I wouldn't be worried about anything bursting into flames - the risk of the oil catching fire is extremely low and as soon as it starts coming out it will cool the plug as it goes everywhere. Maybe wait till it's drained before you start trying to unscrew it?

    I would try to remove without drilling if at all possible, as you will need to be sure that any swarf you get inside the sump has been removed.

    I was a bit worried that given how soft it is there might not be so effective hence I was looking at the drill a hole and extract type. But given you're good experience with them I might give them a shot.

    I was just going to pump the oil out the dip stick tube like I have been but I'm probably going to hang onto the car longer now and its a pain in the bum, I think it'd like to sort out the sump plug rather than just living with it.

    Thats a good point actually, never thought about that. Irwin seems to be the way forward then.
