    Default Oh Dear

Front passenger spring just broke and I'm 80 miles from home. It's only about a third of a coil and its still seated tight under load. Am I risking it driving moderately home?

The sensible answer is try to get the vehicle recovered home/garaged locally if you have RAC recovery / AA / Green Flag equivalent....however I'm the the majority of Vectra owners have driven on broken springs unknowingly for probably not inconsiderable distances (I include myself in that!)

I've just looked at the "Have you had a spring break" thread, 1024 have said yes!!!!

The risk you run is hitting a pothole, or similar, and the spring unseating itself and going through the side of the tyre. If you can jack your car up, and take the load off the suspension unit, and see if the spring moves loose, up and down, side to side, in the unit then its going to be a risk.

I drove mine home but it was only 20 miles. It's up to you, if you have AA etc then call them to get you home.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

If you know you have a spring failure and then you knowingly drive the car in a potentially dangerous condition on a road and either have or cause an accident ...

    Nuff said

    Get it recovered or repaired

Well im back in one piece.
The spring has stayed in the position that it was when I checked it.
The dilema I have now is whether to replace both front springs or replace the front and back
Found a set of Apex springs for just over £100 delivered. Are these any good?
I dont really want to lower the car or make the car stiffer.
Can anyone recomend what I should do.

Stuck to my guns and managed to get trade price on two front springs so off down to dads next week to fit them. Hope I don't notice any more suspension bits on their way out. I'm trying to save to get the timing belt done.

Springs changed. Suprised how easy it was to change them. Even happier that there were no labour charges either. Had a good poke around and all bushes etc are good so hopefully be able to enjoy tthe car again
