Default Strange Creak from Front Suspension

    Slightly odd one this.

Get a terrible creaking/grating sound from front left hand side of car (SRI CDti) but only when travelling at under 5 mph and only when turning the steering wheel slowly (up to half lock).

It's not quite a creak - more of a groan/grind sound (if that makes any sense at all). No creaks, groans or untoward noises over bumps or during normal driving. Only happens when steering at low speeds. Have WD40'd front ARB bushes and links but no change.

Mechanic thinks suspension top mount bearing - but I would have thought that would make a noise all the time.

    Any suggestions. Cheers - Martin.

Thanks for that. It's not that I don't trust my local garage but always nice to get a 2nd opinion.

How long - about an hours labour per side plus parts?

    Update
Both suspension top mount bearings changed but still creaking and now I am in heated discussions with garage about payment (I have already coughed up) which I will sort out in due course.

So what to look for next? Could it be steering/ball joint related?

And to top it all my wife's CMAX has just gone into limp home mode with two fault codes P0047 and P0380 which could result in a new turbo....FFS.

stones caught between a metal plate and the brake disc or the metal plate touching the disk. Happened to mine several times and gives the exact same issue you are having
