Default cdti 150 3rd service advice

i know this question gets asked alot ( whats done on 10k service 20k serice etc etc) ive had a look through old threads and cant see what im after. my 58 plate vectra cdti 150 sri is going into vx for intrim service. ( this may not be relevant ) but ac did its first serivce at 14k miles then i had vx do its major service at 25k miles, ive also done oil changes at 6month intervals also. now i was never told wat work was done on the major service. its now due its intrim service again even though its now only on 28k miles one year on. my book doesnt really make it clear as to what is needed or done on the 3rd service. is it just a case of oil oil filter and air filter and maybe visual inspection of suspension etc. i was just a tad confused as its the 3rd service but its only done 28k miles. again sorry, i know this gets asked alot. but any help or advice, many thanks. rob

Had mine last year, was only oil and filter plus checks. VX wanted £170 so I went to an independent VX, the guy was VX trained cost only £70 as warranty was just ended anyway. Mine on 30k now and just had a major 4th service for £190 inc Mot, which was oil & filter, air filter fuel filter and pollen filter, keyfob batt. plus fluid top ups.

if it wasnt a fairly new car i would just service it myself or take it to a cheaper garage but just want to get a good dealership service history. like you say vx charge an arm and a leg for what is a simple serivce. havent even had a price of them yet but the service should have been done begining of jan so its over due. im going to ring them in the morning.

3rd service is exactly the same as the 1st service
    Parts to be changed :
    Oil
    Oil Filter
    Pollen Filter
    Fuel Filter

From what I can see, the 2nd service only adds :
    Air Filter

If your car is out of warranty, then ask for a price for the MasterFit Service and compare to the price for the OE service
All you then need to add is the Pollen Filter, as this is not included
Also, ask what grade and specification of oil they will be using

that would explain a few things then, when i got the car it had just had its first service at 14k miles, i checked the air filter and it was black, im shocked the air filter isnt replaced on every service.

OMG just rang my local vx dealer to book this intrim 3rd service. £199.
oh i said, what do i get for that? he said the only parts used would be oil and filter everything else is just a visual check. ill ring you back, i said. so what should i do now. as said before i really want to keep a good service history and stamps in my book as its only a 3 year old car. but im not paying £199 for an oil change when i can get all the stuff myself from autovaux including air filter for £44. may be a stupid question but is it still worth letting them do it incase this visual inspection does find somthing that needs doing or do i tell them to sod off and either do it myself or book it into another garage. halfords autocentre would do it for £141 inc fully syn oil ( i know some of you dont like halfords ha ) opinions please

I have to agree £199 is little high if all they are changing is the oil and oil filter, no other filters
Equally something wrong there is the Pollen Filter should be included

Is your car covered by any type of warranty (or may be in future)?
If so, phone around for prices for OE Service
The last Interim Service I had was £150 plus VAT, that included Pollen Filter and using GM-LL specification oil (and the Y30DT uses nearly 8 litres)
The Major Service was £180 plus VAT, that included Air Filter and Fuel Filter, I then added a Brake Fluid Change (I was charged an additional £25 plus VAT)

I previously tried Halfords, AA, and blackcircles.com but they were nearly double what VX wanted
I also phoned the four local VX dealerships and the one I normally use was the cheapest
The nearest one came up with a silly price (and always does on anything I ask for)

Now that my car is out of warranty I am using the MasterFit Service, but you have to ask for specific filters (as the schedule does NOT include)
As above, have this service carried out, then go to the Parts Department and by them yourself!
