urgent alternator advice please folks

hi guys driving home from dropping my 2 boys home tonite i noticed my hids brighter than normal and then the battery light came on put it in testmode n the charge rate was at 11.7v so only few mins from the shop i parked in a way i could bump start it if i needed to but i noticed it was idling at 1000rpm not 850 so knocked it off. restarted the car after couple of mins all was fine then about a minute later batt light back on the only bit of difference driving wise was slight lack of boost and instrement panel was dimming went to get fuel same again overrevving so when i got home opened the bonnet while running checked aux belt and felt/listened to the alternator no humming/whining nothing out of the ordinary. went out run it for couple of mins ticked over fine then batt light came back on n revs climbed back up to 1000rpm so i came in before kicking it
any ideas i'm thinking alternator or hopefully regulator what does amyone else think thanks in advance
btw its a 19 cdti 150 elite 06 plate 62500 miles

sounds like alternator to me mate and mine went about the same mileage

Alternator

The fast idle is the ECU trying to increase the charge from the alternator. Mine failed the same way.

Fitted new alternator, jump-started the car, it's been fine for 10k miles now

thanks for the replys lads another thing i have noticed thou since having the car in july last year there has been a funny squeeking noise from cold which i put down to the aux belt tensioner n it was louder than the engine when cold quite embarasing really, nice car making a horrible noise but anyway that hasnt been half as loud last couple of of days it couldnt have anything to do with that before i change the alt could thanks again

Put a new belt on with the new alternator

My alternator went at 82,000 miles. Only had the car 2 weeks! Battery light came on when i arrived at work. When i was leaving work, took a few turns of the key to start the car. 5 minutes later battery light came on again and stayed on. 30 miles in, radio went funny, windows wouldnt close, different warning lights came on and finally the power steering died. AA had to tow me to the garage! If it is the alternator, get it sorted. As therse nothing worse than been stranded on the road/motorway waiting for roadside recovery.

hi folks just to keep you up to speed got new alternator today rxt one from euro car parts for 169 quid has anyone used n had experience of these b4 n i think i might have the old one recond just so got a spare incase this one packs up plan on doing it tomorrow n will keep you informed n thanks for your input great help
