I did this as a joke a while ago for exactly the same reason.
The reason people gave who put VXR badges on there cars was to "Support the VXRacing team"
However I'd point out it was missing the "acing" bit!
I find it amusing that people can afford the badge of the car they couldn't, and fit it on the lesser spec car they drive.
This annoys the bejeezus out of me! There are a lot of them up here. I'd not have a badge on the car if I didn't use parts made by whoever's the badge is, i.e. Irmscher spoiler or bodykit = OK to have Irmscher badge. Bog standard Chavmobile with aftermarket 16v badge = NOT OK

I like to think that these types of badge offer an opportunity to embarrass the owner either buy asking probing questions about their Nissan Micra GTR or (if on the move) with a swift yet telling overtaking maneuver.
