Default Cruise control keeps turning itself off

    Hi,

Having problems with my cruise control at the moment. Driving home from work and realised, more and more cars seemed to be drifting past me...cruise control had simply turned itself off!!. Put it back on and it lasted for about 5 seconds and did the same. Tried it a couple more times and the same thing happened..weird!.

    Anyone had the same issue?

    Mike

yeah i have took the stalk out with the paperclip method and cleaned the terminals with contact spray and the ones on the stalk as well , also used a piece of bent wire to lift the little wire connectors inside the housing , it has almost solved it but i am still having a problem when i indicate right it knocks off , every other way its perfect , think i need to take it out agian and try some emery cloth on the stalk connecting points see if that works

There is a clutch spring that can be replaced ... Have a search for a thread by porkballs29 who details the problem and the parts info

Has your floor mat slipped forward and up under the brake pedal? This happened to me I thought I had a major annoying problem but thats all it was switching the cruise off. It appeared to be actuating the brake switch.

Many problems with the Vec cruise control... I've had:

    1. clutch spring failure (recall on some models, but I had to buy the mod-spring from VX. 2 minutes to fit)

    2. dirty connections where the stalk connects with the steering column. As someone has said, it's a case of taking the stalk out and giving a blast with contact cleaner.

    3. sticky buttons on the stalk. Still get this now and it's a pain in the bum.
