Default 3.2 V6 Pipercross Viper or BMC CDA???

ok bit of a dilemma, im looking to uprade to one of the above but unsure on which to choose.

reason being i went to a rolling road day last weekend and made 208.4bhp, not bad i didnt think? however was soon upstaged by a chap with the same car who ran 232.6bhp only mods being a decat pipe and a k&n cone filter.

now any genuis would say these 2 differences should make up 24bhp but anyway....ive heard all the storys about cone heat soak blah blah this clearly didnt come into play as the bonnet was up it was a cold day and had a massive industrial fan blowing at it so fact. it was sucking in more air hense me wanting to uprade but taking into consideration everyday driving and minimising heat soak. so im eyeing up the above.

I dont want to hear no airbox mod and panel filter bull because i already have it and having thought about it is a load of crap. first of all the airfeed isnt big enough, the pipe changes shape, opens up into a big chamber and a big filter restricting and slowing down air speed and then the airbox outlet on a 3.2 is right over near the left side of the box so overall the inlet track is too disturbed and inconsistent, and as for the airbox mod....LOL the pipe you rip out actually directs the airflow out of the airbox so removing it jus alows the air to free roam in the box before being sucked in so dont see how you would advantage from this what so ever.

So it really has to go for a shorter, bigger more consistent inlet system with minimal chance of air speed disturbance just wondering what experience people have with these 2 im questioning? both look cool in carbon, viper has a 150mm ram pipe, CDA has 100mm inlet/outlets just which to choose?

if you already have the airbox mod and filter and your just pulling 208 bhp then you have to think the engine wasnt as strong to start with and the few mods you have done has increased bhp but not as much.
the other guys car odds on has a strong engine to start with hense the reason why hes getting such good figures
i ran 222bhp with only denso plugs and a k&n panel with the airbox mod
so odds on engine was running 208bhp standard and the couple of extra mods i done upped the bhp
ive since fitted a s\s exhaurst so will now on saturday if thats done it any better or not

well first thing i did when i bought the car was put it on the rollers before i even touched it and it pulled 207bhp, so 1bhp loss in 8 years i couldnt grumble. i now have the densos too, they are great, they dont add power but its stronger at the top of the rev range due to being able to cope with higher heat, i have graphs to back this up on identical dynos. im not complaining about the power of my car because its got a panel filter? and i have gained 1bhp lol just has a lot more potential with something more beefy.

when you change the filter to a cone are you putting it on a rolling road to see would be nice to know if its better bhp
only reason why i put k&n panel filter on was i read on here about heat soak so went for the safer option.

the decat does release loads of power but will not pass mot will it.

I had the Viper on my previous GSI and must say it sounded great, i'm not sure of any power gains as it wasn't put on the rollers but i can say it certainly helped it breath better.

would be good to see how your results work out pandy. i no all rollers are different and all engine are differant and have been nown to pull 215-220 standard, like i said im not complaining its a 9 year old car with 53k and have pulled standard power with nothing more than a panel filter. no question they are good quality however the design of the airbox and inlet pipe work is not adequate in size and encorporates to much pressure change. i have always been a fan of the viper it certainly looks the better one as im not a fan of the cheap airfeed with the CDA and basically is a cone filter with a carbon surround where as the viper has a better inlet pipe and diverting part inside so just weighing up prices
