    Default What Causes Brake Disc to Score

    As above, jow20 has been over tonight.....by the way thanks Luke and on changing my wheels I noticed my front discs are scored, pads are perfectly fine.......they are the mtec drilled and grooved discs by the way with mintex pads

    Sometimes stones can cause scoring marks, I had a stone wedged between the disc and the caliper the other day an its scored edge of the disc rather too close to the alloy wheel, it also made a rather loud bang just before it fell out! also pad compounds can cause disc scoring aswell all to do with the compound mix, hope any of that helps?

    As all of the above have said. Did you previous pads get worn down to the metal, another reason.

    thanks guys for all replies, pads and discs were bought as a complete set off ebay....there the mtec drilled and grooved and came with the pads .....wonder if any body else mtecs have done the same as I'm sure lots on here bought /have them, rears look fine tho

    The thing with the mtecs on ebay is the business works by buying the cheapest discs they can and drilling and or grooving them, to be honest they are utter rubbish. A friend of mine who doesn't drive hard fitted there discs and within 6 months they were badly warped.

    ah .............discs do look glazed as if they get hot.....right time to slow down.......lol..........thanks again
