Thread: What Gearbox do I have, or how can I find out?

    Default What Gearbox do I have, or how can I find out?

    Wanting to do a G/B Oil change due to the car covering 52K, and the notchy 1st to 2nd change.

    It's an 06 1.8VVT with a 5 speed Manuel.
    Any Ideas what box I have, also what Fluid do you guys use? I heard of VX filling their boxes with PAS Fluid!!!

    not good news mate, ive also a 1.8vvt '06 manual. we have an F17 gearbox, and to change the oil, you gotta pop a driveshaft out, theres no plug!! I looked into doin an oil change myself but gave up. hth

    As above, F17, and no easy way to do an oil change in these. Remove the Differential Pan to drain and remove the reverse light switch to refill. Think the revised replacement fluid amount was 1.8lt.

    A Drive shaft? WTF?
    What sort of "engineer" thought that up???

    Looks like a weekends work for me then!

    Might be worth drilling a drain hole with and making a plug for it...

    I mean Christ on a bike... a drive shaft out!

    Unless you remove the reversing light switch and get one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OIL-FLUID-...ht_1290wt_1037 and suck it out - might be quicker and easier

    That sir, is a good idea..... Didn't even know these existed..
    Good way to measure the amount of oil thats come out too... I like it. They sell these at Machine Mart too... Going to have to give these a go I think.

    That one listed on Fleabay is a bit cheap and nasty - but would probably do the job. You can get electric ones that some garages use all the time to change engine oil rather than mess with drain plugs. Good luck with it.
