    Default Coil Spring Compressor

    Hi Guys,

Planing on getting a new suspension setup soon but realised I've lost my old compressors and I'm looking for recommendations for getting a new set.

My old ones were really good, I acquired them from the GF's Grandad since he had loads of tools from when he had his own Garage and at 86 he's not really up for swapping out suspension parts any more. Mind you he'll still get his hands dirty, he's just not so good at rolling about under the car anymore. Impressive really!

Anyway, I'm digressing... What have you guys got? What's good and what's to be avoided?

Never used them on the Vectra and I have done quite a few. Point the shock away from you while you undo the top nut and you will find there is very little compression. This works fine if you are refitting lowered springs because you only have to push this down a bit to get the nut back on. If you are refitting the same springs you might need to use compressors then.

    Cheers for the recommendations guys.

merikiito - I'm regularly a clumsy oaf so terrified of attempting it without the compressors, with my luck, I'd have my arm off! Did you see the mess I made of my last service?

I originally saw a someone take the spring off without the compressers trying to show off and expecting everything to go flying but it didn't. He was warned before hand by me that it could be very dangerous and in the end we both looked idiots as nothing really happened (It was a Vectra c shock). I would only do this on standard shocks and springs and only on the Vectra C.

WARNING Do not attempt this on any other car

SECOND WARNING Do this at your own risk

By the sounds of it you need to stick to the compressors, shame you were not nearer as u could have borrowed the set I have
