Question ABS & Traction control lights on?

    Hi guys,

    05 Vectra CDTI 150 BHP Breeze, 95000miles

I have searched the forums and cant seam to find anyone that has had this exact problem?

Hope you can help me again.

Driving to work this morning the ABS & the Traction control light both came on at the same time?

I got to work and got my ODB2 scanner out to see if there were any trouble codes persent. No faults.

Turned it off and on and now the "INSP" light pops on for the first few seconds then goes off. Yes I know how to reset this and it is probably due a service soon anyway.

I have seen on a few posts that the cause of the ABS light coming on may be related to a sensor on the rear of the NSF wheel hub or I may need a new NSF hub? Didn't have the light or time tonight to have a look behind but will try tomorrow afternoon.

What I havent seen is any reports of both lights coming on at the same time and what this might mean?

    Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks in advance for saving me some more of my money.

did you wheelspin at all ? I've heard these come on as the wheel speed sensor -think thats on f/n/s ? gets confused . it should clear after several starts .

    lol no not today.

No i had also read that about the wheel spinning but at the time I was in a average speed check section of the M4 motorway doing a nice steady 50 MPH.

Does'nt account for the traction control light also coming on either.

I think if you spin the wheels you may just get the ABS light coming on only.

    I'm special I have both.

Thanks for the reply though any other thoughts anyone?

Road wheel speed sensor problem probably.

The wiring goes up the suspension leg and there is a plug that notoriously gets water in and corrodes the terminals and a poor contact is thus made.

Separate the connector, spray in some cleaner / WD40 and make the connection several times.

If the wheel speed sensor goes it will cause the ABS and TC to not function, and put the respective warning lights on.

Of course it could be something more or less sinister - but I always believe in starting at the low cost items and working upwards....

Whats the condition of the ABS ring on the drive shafts? My old Vectra B had a similar issue when the castalated (not sure correct spelling) ring cracked with age/ wear and tear this gave the sensor a mis-read as it saw the crack as an extra notch. No fault code as it, the sensor, was working correctly. The nearside cracked first more wear and tear and then the off side. Had to replace the CV joints as no 'abs rings' could be obtained for that model

If its just a cheap obd scanner it won't read abs faults.

    They only read engine faults.

But as above it's more than likely a wheel sensor fault

    Thumbs down Update

    Well...

This is what I have done.

Took the FNS wheel off and I think I found the 2 wires that control the ABS and the Traction control. (see Attached photos)

Disconnected them both from the junction box and there was no corrosion in fact they both looked incredibly clean.

Followed the ABS wire down to brake callipers and wiggle it out and gave it a clean. (what out for the small spring if you do this)

Also followed the other wire (traction Control) down to the hub where it looks like there is no connection to test? Looks as if it goes directly into the inner hub?

Cleaned up what I could and put all back together and went for a road test.

turned on and off a few times and covered about 2 miles but still have both lights on.

Completed a brake test and the front near side wheel does lock up as if no ABS is working on that wheel. Offside doesnt lock up.

Question is did I get the rights bits to clean and if this has not resolved it do you think I'm going to need a new NSF hub for £288 oh plus the service it needs too double

    regards

    Keith
