If the car is in it's first year of Vx warranty - yes. If it's out of that then No. Not even the Net Q warranty covers paintwork.

It's pretty alarming to see that sort of peeling though!! Has the mirror cover been (badly) resprayed at some point?

Eek – bad news yorkshireborn, I have a similar year car hope I don’t get this.

As Duncan says could be someone did a poor patch up job (unless you have had the car from new). I have seen a fair few mirrors with scratches, but it has not progressed to peeling like that.

That sounds like it may be the reason then. Looking at the pic again you can see bubbling elsewhere. I suppose given their position, any water is going to get forced into any little paint break when you're driving at speed in the wet.

As for removing the mirror, you need to get a plastic wedge of sorts and slide it in behind the mirror glass as much as possible, then prise the glass off - takes a bit of force. Make sure you get the wedge thing as far behind the glass as possible to avoid putting too much force on the edge section of the glass, or it'll just crack. You want to be getting the force across as much of the glass area as possible. Once you have the glass off, you'll see the little lugs you need to unclip to get the cover off.
