The valve only closes on engine shut down m8. Known as a shut off plate or anti shudder plate. On CDTI's on the Vectra's/Signums around 2004-2005 there can be an issue with the throttle position sensor causing the valve to shut over - resulting in engine stalling. This is due to the solder joints in the throttle body housing cracking.

Hi thanks for the reply mine is open with engine on or off I have no power below 2000 rpm started ages weeks back but then I had a code for the egr valve so cleaned it & that sorted it but the problem came back a few days back but with no code so I bought a new valve & put it on but it's still the same, I have some softwere on my laptop & when I do a throttle vale test the car cuts out so I starting to think it's the throttle body what do you think thanks again Paddy

As said have a look at the throttle body. The throttle plate should only close on shut down - it will always be open regardless if the engine is running or not. This is only applicable to diesels.

Ive read somewhere that the valve closes when you shut engine off but after a short while it resets to open ready for the next start but dont quote me on it

If the engine has a lack of power under 2000rpm--like mine had--then you may want to read this http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showthread.php?t=109454

Hi Paddy--its worth looking at as it made a big difference to my Cdti--- heres my posting on the thread. And what i used--cost all of £1.99 and i have a bit left over!

    what a difference
I got a 1m length of this [ame="http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130650178854"]http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=130650178854[/ame] ... arrived next day so well impressed. Cut to length and slipped on with no trouble---the old rubber pipes were starting to perish and harden.

Anyways the difference is amazing---the car pulls from 1200rpm now where it struggled before till reaching 2000rpm ---so it just pulls now. The judder has gone--felt as if it was stuggling and had no power under 2000rpm so was always dropping a gear to get it going again. Now its transformed.

    Cheers Andy
