    Default F40or M32...

I was under the impression that all 1.9CDTIs in Vectras were fitted with F40 gearboxes but I have read about two gearbox failures on Vectras recently that were both M32 boxes. Did they fit the M32 to the 8v then?

    Yes M32`s are fitted and i`ve had a failure also with a cdti 8v 120 fitted with a M32

They start to whine/grumble in 5 and 6th gear and also when you pull away in first gear the gearstick rocks back then forward soon after the 6th gear end bearing makes an escape attempt out of the gearbox cracking/holing the casing as was the case with mine while idling on the driveway it just smashed it`s way out allowing all my gearbox oil to leak everywhere

That is pretty much the same fault I have heard on all the other M32 failures. The Vectra 8v 1.9CDTI should be convertable to an F40 for a simular cost to changing an M32 box I would have thought? You can get second hand F40 boxes for less than £500, where as M32s are hard to come by for less than £900.

I bought a remanufactured M32 gearbox from vauxhall for £1329.60 including vat with 2 years unlimimted mileage guarantee in August last year that was trade price as i wasn`t paying circa £600 to £1000 for a secondhand one with unknown milieage etc when they seem to be a common failure so it made more sense to spend that little extra especially as mines was being fitted to a taxi

Some people on the Astra forums claim to be running 350lbft through M32 boxes... It seems unlikely that they would live long like that when they fall over so often on standard 8v 1.9CDTIs.

I think I read that Astra 1.9CDTI 150's had M32 boxes. The M32 has a lower advertised torque limit than the F40.

The M32 was fitted to the Astra CDTI's. The F40 was fitted to the Vectra. Come on I thought we all learned something from diesel dog's ramblings about gear ratios.
