1.9 Cdti 150 (Automatic)

My gearbox seens to labour in 3rd gear a lot......... it seems "happy" to stay in 3rd even when the engine tone sounds llike it should have changed up... it's on "08" plate and has done 66k... is this a sign of anything sinister going on in the box !!!!!

my m8s does the same, put it in manual and gb sounds fine through all the gears, so i dont think anything mechanical is wrong with it.

maybe there just a bit lazy

I was wondering if there was some sort of "vaccuum" system that determined gear selection that maybe leaking !!!!!

5 or 6 speed? Mine does hold the gears, a VX tech told me on Saturday it is intentional to stop the emissions guts clogging - mine regularly hold 4th or 5th (out of 6) at 50mph. As an automatic your DPF equipped don't forget.

mine is the same....40mph in 3rd sounds strained so i manually knock it up a gear

I'd never say it sounds strained mind - labouring a diesel is worse than thrashing it.
