    Default Smokey 1.9cdti

Basically the last few weeks the Signum has been getting 'smokier' when accelerating. Cue last week when the 'spanner' light came on when starting, after a mile or two it went off. This has been happening since.

Saturday a friend of mine used his Tech2 to diagnose the fault and all that came up was a glow plug error. Would dodgy glow plugs cause an abundance of smoke? If not, what else could it be?

    Thanks in advance!

Could possibly be causing the car to overfuel. You have had the code read so get new glow plugs then m8. At least one way or another you will know.

If it was glow plugs, the EML light would only come on when cold.

Yeah, it comes on when its cold and just started, but goes off when the engines warm or you restart the engine.

My Vectra CDT1 120 got smokier and smokier over a long period and lost powere gradually without me being able to put my finger on why until the Turbo seized, solid.
Root cause was a split intercooler, it didn't hiss, the split couldn't be seen without rermoving the radiator but with no back pressure the Turbo was over speeding, sucking vast amounts of air through the airflow meter and so the ecu was making the injection pump pump huge amounts of fuel so making black smoke. Finally the turbo seized big time.
Stupidly enough there was no mention of anything like it on this forum when it happened July 2011 and only came to light when Bayliss changed the intercooler and made the car worse when they failed to diagnose a seized Turbo, absolutely seized solid Turbo, and fitted a new intercooler, and then Trevor Carr of Poulton fitted a second hand turbo I got of Ebay.
Check the intercooler pipes and if they are ok have the intercooler out for a look see.

I had a new intercooler about 3 months ago. It was leaking bottom right. I used to get loads of black smoke when I booted it. But I think I sorted it in time turbos fine.
