Default Only running 3 cylinders !

    Hi guys,

    Im new to the forum.

Ive had a health check done at Vauxhall on my 2006 vectra SRi 1.9 CDTi [150].

They have said its only running on 3 cylinders, what are my options in terms of further diagnostics?

    Are vauxhall the only choice?
Are there other garages who offer this service?
What should be the price to do it? (Vauxhall want £192 just to diagnose the problem !!! )

    Thanks.
    Stan.

You should have noticed on the running and strating if it was only on 3 cylinders. First thing I'd check if it's correctly diagnosed would be 3rd injector. Usually causes misfires rather than no cylinder. Sounds an expensive health check and yes, other garages will do it for you. Is there a local garage you trust?

Yes i did notice it running rough when i bought the car but it was my first diesel so i didnt think much of it. It seems to run fine once warmed up.

Im useless with engines to be honest .... I'll try a local garage and see what they say...

Will opcom or Tech 2 not work?

They will read any codes yes.

I am also surprised there are no engine management lights on with it running on 3?

First off what colour are your injector plugs blue or yellow?
If they are yellow then at the very least injector no.3 needs to be changed to the blue uprated version. The kit can be got from VX and will cost about £12 ish.

What happens it he wiring and plug breakdown on injector no.3 possibly caused by air flow over that particular injector.
Its a very common issue and many garages are not aware of it resulting in £100's being spent trying to find the issue. You will also find that some garages are aware of it but will telll you lies and charge you a fortune to solve it.
This only effects the 1.9 CDTi 150 with yellow injector plugs

    Hi Lee,

The EML does come on when i start the car up, and a cloud of blue smoke out the exhaust.

Are you saying its only running rough when first started from cold - and then runs ok when warmed up - that could well be a glow plug issue - was the engine hot when they did the Health Check - and did they suggest what could be wrong with it? As already said if its misfiring when the engine is warm it could be the 3rd injector electrical connection or an injector issue.

Get it to another garage and get them to have a look and read the codes to start with.

    Hi guys,

Just to clarify, when i first start up the car (normally after its been stationary for more than 5 hours) it runs rough for the first minute and the EML comes on.

After a couple of extra minutes (around 3/4) when the engine has been running for a bit the EML goes off and it seems to run absolutely fine. no boost issues or misfires.

    Thanks.
    Stan.
