Default 6 speed manual gearbox 1.9 cdti removal and jack

I'll be doing a clutch soon and looking for a way to remove the gearbox as in actually lift it off and pull it and I will be doing this job myself.

any idea how heavy this gearbox is? any sort of decent tool/jack out there that will allow me to pull it off or just elbow grease,

i'll be taking off the subframe and moving that out the way to get proper access with plenty of room and possibly gearbox jack underneath somewhere,

I just lifted it out by hand last weekend, it's heavy but it's not too bad a job

Would hate to see what your back will be like in 30 years. That can't be a good thing.

I've had back problems all my life.
Anyway back on topic, I did mine on axle stands and when lifting the gearbox in and out it really didn't put any strain on my back at all.
If your doing it on a ramp it's advised to get somebody else to lend a hand.

When you say lifting the gearbox are you lying on your back and catching it as is disconnects from the engine and lowering it to the floor or lifting it up and out of the engine compartment from above!

Thank goodness for that - I'm impressed with you doing that - if you had done it the other way I would have really been impressed
I've done one or two like that myself - its just when you get to that point of no return and your praying your chest can take the weight.............
