Bit of a strange one. I think i have a problem with the recirculate servo. Done some reading up and i reckon that's what it is. The only difference i can find to the ones i've been reading is that my recirculate light wont go off! It also flashes when i put it on, in time with the clicking noise. Does this sound familiar to anyone else?

Sounds like it to me. But I have not come across the light coming on with it though.
I suppose you could remove the glove box. Be careful the lead to the glovebox light is not too long. then locate the servo and pull the connector off it and see it the light goes out and the clicking stops.

If you take the pollen filter out you can then see the flap in operation. Have a look at it while someone pushes the button, but it sounds like the servo/stepper motor to me too.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!
