Thread: Starting problem with z19dt engine from cold.

    Default Starting problem with z19dt engine from cold.

    Hi guys. Still having this starting issue from cold. Car with spanner light still on at ignition (forever) but goes off instantly after/while starting, car chuggles when starting. This is problem started after DMF and clutch change.

    Read the injectors today and got the readings below. Is this normal?

    Cylinder 1 injector Quantity Deviation: (-2.10)

    Cylinder 2 injector Quantity Deviation: (-0.13)

    Cylinder 3 injector Quantity Deviation: (2.01)

    Cylinder 4 injector Quantity Deviation: (0.21)

    Also has code P0621- Generator Lamp "L" control circuit malfunction.

    Could this be related to the starting issue? Thanks.

    Changed so far, glowplugs, injector seals, leak off pipes, thermostat, battery.

    Have no idea about the injector results but I have done pretty much the same as you, also bought another battery for it a couple of weeks back but still seems quite tempermental. Starting to think this could be down to valve shims. Or as someone else a while back found some wear and tear on their camshaft (some kind of manufacturing defect). Apart from all that I am just as stumped as you

    looking at that the third injector wiring needs replacing the part number from vxl for the " field remedy kit " is 93189918 and will cost about £16 or there about you will need a soldering iron too

    That's for a z19dth 150bps engine mate. No???

    "Also has code P0621- Generator Lamp "L" control circuit malfunction."


    The alternator is either low/high on voltage output or has an internal short.

    This has been know to cause cold starting problems.

    Cleared this code and the spanner light turned off but car still struggles to start and the chugging is still there.

    I have always thot the alternator only kicks in after car is started to charge and replace voltage used for starting by battery. wrong???

    Battery voltage before/after starting car is 12.1/14.0volts. could there still be an alternator problem?

    Have you cleaned the EGR and boost sensor?

    And check vac pipes for splits too

    Took EGR out yesterday and though the solenoid was ok, I took it to pieces and cleaned it. Same goes for the boost sensor.

    Not checked the vacuum pipes properly for split but might just change that incase it's a thin line split that can't be seen easily. Thanks for the suggestion.
