    Default New Member Cambelt Advice

    Morning all,

    A new member here, hello

I am looking at buying a Vectra Elite 1.9CDTI Diesel auto (56 plate) or 2.2 CDTI Diesel auto (54 plate).

All of the ones I'm going to view claim to have a full service history from main dealers.

    My questions are:
    1. Do these cars have a belt or chain?
    2. What mileage should they be changed?
    3. Will a dealership annotate the service book to say its been done?

Sorry to be so demanding on my first post, but I'm going to look at two today so need a quick answewr!!!!

    Many thanks in advance,
    Jeff.

The 1.9cdti is a Belt, which VX say is 100k/10 years which ever is first, but it is much safer to change prior to this, some change at 50k, some more. Dont forget the water pump too.

Not sure on the 2.2 CDTi though.

The 1.9CDti has a belt---i just did mine and Vauxhall did state 100k for change--tho i believe they have revised that to 80k. Usually the vauxhall garages will annote the service books to show its been done but look at the engine end covers--- drivers side--to see if theres any evidence of being replaced--- could be a sticker on the cover etc.

I think the 2.2 DTi is a chain---but not 100% sure---and they do have problems just like all the other engines so dont think a chain will last forever, cos they dont.

Good luck---personally i would go for the 1.9cdti 16v but I am biased now. And they have lots of other problems as well--- just check it on here for known problems n get a good one.

    Cheers Andy

Ive got the 1.9cdti and I had the cam belt and water pump done at about 90,000. Its a great engine I've had no problems with it at all but I know some have so check the forum. Happy hunting

If you're not sure if / when it was changed on the CDTi, then change it. I had a receipt to show mine had been changed, but it was a false receipt. I reckon my belt had done 127k miles looking at the state of it when we changed it!! Look here >> http://vectra-c.com/forum/showthread.php?t=144725

The cdti's are ok if you don't get a dog, But that's the luck of the draw with any car, Ive also had 2.0 & 2.2 di/dti's & they were at or upto 140k with there original engines including the timing chains, I brought them at around 90k & done oil changes around 5/6k miles as i always do, you cant rely on service history that much ive always had full service history cars & when you check the vehicles close half of its bull! a lot of dealers will rip the company's of with there car servicing because they know nobody's going to check anyway, good luck & if your unsure walk away or get a specialist vehicle health check or take out an extended warranty.
