Question Question about my air con

Can someone please confirm whether I am being fed bull**** or not....

I have been told that my air con will not come on if the outside temp is too cold, only when the temp rises slightly. Now, my reason for asking is because when i tried it the other day (outside temp was around 0c) I really couldn't notice the difference. I've put 50 quid aside to get it regassed in srping time but if it's just a case that it won't come on until the temp rises then i'll blow the 50 quid on other bits instead (I have a list as long as me arm! )

    appreciate any advice.....

It might click in but at 3o and lower wont be for long cause there is no point so will turn off even with light on.

do you get the drop in revs and hear the engine struggle a bit when below 4C? if not the compressor is actually not doing anything.

Well I tried it today (at a toasty 6.5c outside temp) and I heard it kick in, but again no really no difference in coldness whether the air con is on or off. I guess I'll just have to wait for the weather to warm a bit!

If you want to see if its working just look at the end of the aircon pump.

If the centre of the pulley is spinning (Not the outer part the belt is on) when you turn it on it should be working.

That'll be the dehumidifying part of the AC system working, not the AC system itself. It's designed not to work at something less that 4 deg C to stop itself freezing up.
